Exercise Overview
Proper color management is the foundation of professional digital imaging work. To establish complete control over your color workflow, we'll configure Photoshop to actively alert you whenever color profiles are mismatched or missing. This proactive approach puts you in the driver's seat, allowing you to make informed decisions about color handling rather than letting Photoshop make assumptions that could compromise your final output.
This configuration is particularly crucial in 2026's multi-device, multi-platform publishing environment, where your images may appear across everything from high-end print materials to mobile displays and HDR monitors.
Navigate to Edit > Color Settings to access Photoshop's color management hub.
From the Settings dropdown menu at the top of the dialog, select North America Prepress 2. This preset provides industry-standard color management settings optimized for professional print production workflows.
While the North America Prepress 2 preset should automatically configure all necessary settings, it's essential to verify each parameter matches your requirements. Double-check that all settings align with the configuration shown below, as these form the foundation for consistent color reproduction throughout your projects.

Click OK to apply your color management settings and activate the new configuration.
IMPORTANT NOTE: These settings serve as our standard configuration for the remainder of this course and represent best practices for professional prepress workflows. However, remember that color management is highly workflow-dependent. While these settings provide an excellent foundation for most professional applications, your specific output requirements, client specifications, or industry standards may necessitate different configurations. Always consult with your print service provider or display calibration specialist when working on mission-critical color projects.
