The Check Spelling Panel

The Check Spelling panel offers comprehensive spell checking capabilities ideal for final document reviews or when working with content that requires systematic verification. This method provides greater control over the spell-checking process and detailed options for handling specialized terminology.

  1. To initiate a comprehensive spell check, navigate to Edit > Spelling > Check Spelling. This launches InCopy's dedicated spell-checking interface with advanced options for document-wide review.

  2. At the bottom of the spell check window, locate the Search menu to define your checking scope. Your selection here determines the thoroughness of your review:

    Document: Performs comprehensive spell checking across all text frames (Stories) throughout the entire InCopy layout, ideal for final document review

  3. Click the Start button to begin the process. In some cases, InCopy automatically initiates the spell check based on your current cursor position and previous settings.

  4. As the spell checker identifies potential issues, you have several professional-grade options for handling each instance:

    • Select a suggested correction from InCopy's dictionary and click Change to apply the recommended spelling.
    • Enter your own correction in the text field and click Change to implement custom edits, particularly useful for industry-specific terminology.
    • Click Ignore All to skip all instances of the flagged word without making changes—ideal for proper nouns or specialized terms.
    • Click Add to incorporate the word into your User Dictionary, preventing future spell check flags and building a personalized vocabulary for your content domain.
  5. Upon completion of the spell check process, click Done to close the panel and return to your document editing workflow.
