Creating Your Own Copy of Class Files
Throughout this workbook, you'll be working with carefully curated class files designed to reinforce key AutoCAD concepts and techniques. Rather than risk corrupting the original templates, you'll create your own personal workspace—a best practice that mirrors real-world CAD workflows where preserving master files is critical.
This approach not only protects your learning materials but also allows you to experiment freely, make mistakes, and iterate without consequence. Follow these steps to establish your personalized file structure:
- Clear your desktop workspace by minimizing or closing any open windows so you have full visibility of your Desktop environment.
- Locate and open the Class Files folder that contains your course materials.
- Execute the following file management sequence:
- Single-click on the AutoCAD Class folder to select it (avoid double-clicking, which will open the folder).
- Press CTRL–C to copy the entire folder and its contents to your system clipboard.
- Press CTRL–V to paste and create a duplicate copy.
- The newly created copy will typically appear at the bottom of your folder list. Right-click to rename it yourname-AutoCAD Class, replacing "yourname" with your actual name or preferred identifier.
- Congratulations! You now have your own dedicated set of class files that you can modify, annotate, and customize throughout your AutoCAD journey. This personal workspace will serve as your laboratory for mastering professional drafting techniques.
Always work with copies of original tutorial files. This preserves the master files and allows you to restart exercises if needed.
